furniture redos

How are you guys this week?

I'm neck-deep in furniture redos at the moment.
I have a whole garage full of pieces to finish, to sell & just to start on.
And twelve, yes, twelve more pieces coming in the next couple weeks from a new client.
Yup. I'm crazy.

So I asked you guys on Facebook yesterday if you'd rather see a crazy awesome dresser reveal or pics from the baby shower I did this past weekend.
It was pretty much divided so I decided to show the dresser now & the shower later this week, kay?

See, I DO value your opinions.
So come hang out on Facebook and let me know what you think of all my craziness!!

So, my friend had this dresser.
That was desperately in need of a facelift.
Want to see what we were working with?

Isn't it a fun shape?
I love the bottom of it- it has such modern lines hidden under all that icky beat-up wood.

And I loved the drawers-
the bottom four all had curved faces with no hardware which I really liked.
The top four narrow drawers were flat and had hardware.

We thought about adding hardware to all of them but decided against it because we loved the idea of adding some bling to the top ones later & didn't want it to overwhelm the piece.

The main thing we had to keep in mind was that her hubby really wanted to keep the natural wood top.
He had worked hard to strip and restain it so it was the requirement :)

Which ended up working out perfectly.
Check out the beauty after we got through with it:

Homemade Peppermint Body Wash

Before the end of last year, I never thought about the ingredients in my products. NEVER. I am sure the change is partly due to being 40+ and wanting to keep that soft, young looking skin, but it also has alot to do with actually caring about what I am putting in and on my body. My quest for natural homemade products began with this recipe for body wash. I love everything about it, the scent, the natural ingredients, and the cost! I adapted the recipe from The Little Seed Farm. You should stop over and check them out. :o) I hope you will like this body wash as much as I do.
Peppermint Body Wash

Here is what you will need:
1 cup Water
2 tablespoons Almond Oil
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon Citric Acid
1 teaspoon Guar Gum
1 1/2 cups Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Liquid Castile Soap
30 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

In a bowl, whisk together water, almond oil, honey, and citric acid.
Sprinkle in the guar gum and then immediatley add in the liquid castile soap.
Whisk until well blended.
Add in the peppermint essential oil and stir to combine.
Place body wash in bottle of choice.
I used a recycled bottle. :o)

Enjoy!!

Options:  I've also made Orange Body Wash using Dr. Bronner's Orange Liquid Castile Soap and Orange Essential Oil. Feel free to play around with this recipe, use your favorite oil, favorite scent of liquid castile soap, and favorite essential oils. There are so many possibilities with this recipe!

Homemade "Pore Strip" Mask

As I run out of things, I am trying to replace them with homemade versions. I used my last Biore Pore Strip several weeks ago, so I have been researching, and trying to find something that I can use in it's place. I wanted something that was really easy to make, and that didn't have very many ingredients. There was one that I tried, that I kind of liked, but I couldn't stand the smell of it. I have been playing around with the recipe and this is what I have come up with!

I think it works pretty good. It grabs a hold of all that icky oil on the nose and chin, and pulls it out. You can put it all over your face, if you want to, BUT beware that it hurts when you pull if off! Yes, I am speaking from experience. Besides grabbing that icky oil, this recipe may work good for a hair wax removal on the upper lip. Not that I have any hair on my upper lip, of course. (Getting older really sucks!)

Homemade Pore Strip Mask

Here is what you will need:
1 package, powdered unflavored Knox Gelatin
Lemon Juice

Repurposed Tin Can

I have been saving tin cans for awhile, although, I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them! When I saw Shannon from Fox Hollow Cottage's blog post about how she decorated her cans, I knew I had to do it too! (Make sure you head over and check out her pretty vintage cans.)

Repurposed Tin Can

This is a fun and quick project that anyone can do! Most likely, you have everything you need on hand already. You just need three things, a tin can (any size), spray paint (your favorite color), and embellishments (whatever you have on hand).

I picked color's that would go with my beach sign, since I plan on putting it on the same shelf. I used Krylon Spray Paint in a brown with gold flecks and then found coordinating material to go with it.

The first thing you do is paint your can! You can do two or three coats, depending on if you want any of the metal to be seen through your paint.

As soon as it is dry, start decorating and making your can beautiful! I cut a strip of burlap and glued it to my can. Then I cut a strip of pretty material that I had found at Walmart, and glued it on top of the burlap. The material had these pretty flowers on it, so I cut one of the flowers out, added some glitter to it and glued it on the can. Then I made a little rolled up flower using the same material, added a little rhinestone to the middle of the flower, and glued it to the pretty flower that was already on the can. That's it! Now you have a pretty can to show off to all of your friends!

Have a Great Week!!

Glitter Christmas Ornaments

If you haven't seen this yet, you will be amazed! I know I was. You can use Pledge floor wax, glitter, and glass ball ornaments to make beautiful ornaments with little to no mess. I've seen this on several different blogs and on Pinterest. I first came across this idea on Green Bean's Crafterole.

A few weeks ago, I bought some Martha Stewart glitter, so I had to give this a try. The Martha Stewart glitter comes in the most amazing colors. I loved the results.

All you need is a bottle of Pledge Future liquid floor wax, glitter, glass ball ornaments, and a funnel.

Pour about a tablespoon of Future into an ornament. Gently swirl around. Don't shake, or you will get bubbles. Slowly rotate the ornament and pour the excess liquid back into the bottle.

Using a funnel, pour glitter into the ornament.

Holding your thumb over the hole, shake the ornament so that the glitter covers the entire surface.

Tap the ornament and pour the excess glitter back into the bottle. Continue tapping and pouring until no more glitter comes out.

Let it dry and insert hanger.

The ornaments turned out so pretty! No glitter on the tree, floor, or me!
